Children's Kidney Trust

The Child - The Family - WE CARE

What we do

It all started in 1998, the Children's Kidney Trust was formed to support families of children with kidney disease and to dedicate and support 3 annual awards to recognise nurses who specialised in the care and treatment of children with kidney disease.

Since 1998 so much has happened in the world of kidney transplantation and treatment that our support system has changed to reflect this, our support is now focussed solely on helping individual children and families with children who have kidney problems.

Increasing our support so that we offer it to all hospitals in the UK that have a paediatric renal ward has enabled us to offer more financial support to families.

Support is requested on behalf of a child or family by either their family support worker/social worker or nurse/doctor as we do not accept direct requests from families.

We are committed to helping families and providing long-term support for children, every family that we work with is unique and their situations will differ hugely, this is why each request that we receive is tailored to the exact requirements of that family.

The financial assistance that we offer to families includes:-
  • Hospital admission and visiting expenses
  • Expenses for household items (for direct benefit to the child)
  • One off family expenses
  • Weekend/short breaks
  • Birthday celebrations (through our hospital birthday club project)
  • Unexpected costs
Further information on the financial assistance we give can be found here.
