What we do - our history |
1998
The Children's Kidney Trust was formed to support families of children with kidney disease and to dedicate 3 annual awards for nurses who specialise in paediatric renal treatment and care.
Since 1998 so much had happened in the world of kidney transplantation and treatment that our support system changed to reflect this. We focussed our support solely on the families of children with kidney problems.
2002
Increased our support to all hospitals in the UK that have a paediatric renal ward, this has enabled us to offer more grants to families.
2004
We introduced the award for 'Best Kidney Team' at the annual British Transplant Games. These games are a fantastic opportunity for any child that has received a transplant to get involved in and they are great fun to watch as a supporter.
We were nominated as 'Charity of the Year' by Beaverbrooks the Jewellers in Bromley. This was our first ever Charity of the Year corporate sponsor and we are extremely proud to say that they are still supporting us in 2007
2005
We launched our 'Birthday Club' with Guy's and St Thomas' hospital - London. The idea behind this project was to offer the nursing staff the opportunity to organise a birthday party and a small gift for any child who would be in hospital on their birthday. This was a great success that we then offered the same project to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
We were invited to be the main sponsor of the 'HallSports Games'. 40 youngsters met for a fun packed day competing against each other in a series of events and activities, these games bring together families from across the country and most of the children have received life-saving heart, liver and/or kidney transplants.
Launched a competition open to all children receiving treatment across the UK to name our logo bear. The winning name 'SMILES' was aptly chosen by 4 year old Ellis Broome.
2006
Essex Volunteer branch was established. This group of ladies organise many local events and activities and have raised a fantastic amount of money for the charity and in doing so have also increased the awareness and support levels across the region.
2007
We continue to be involved with all of the above projects and have more planned over the next year. However our main objective has never changed and even more so today we aim to increase our funding to help more families with children who have kidney problems.
